Institute of Contemporary Art (second) opens.

Architect: Diller Scofidio + Renfro. Designed in the Modernist style with a top floor cantilevered over a wide set of stairs, it is located at 25 Harbor Shore Drive. The first new building to serve as home for Boston’s modern art museum, it represents a large expansion of the institution’s exhibition space, and generates increased attendance at and donations to the museum.
